Am I going to have to rent "Big Trouble in Little China"? My wife is out of town this weekend, so it's a perfect time to watch a really good really bad movie.
If Big Trouble isn't the right choice, does anybody have other suggestions?
I saw Big Trouble in Little China at the movies when it came out, in Chinatown. Everyone got into the spirit of the movie. When someone on screen screamed or yelled, the audience screamed along as well. The scene where Jack shot into the air and caused a chunk of roof to fall, the guy sitting behind me was roaring so hard, he'd bent so far forward in his seat that his head was right next to mine. The eye contact was initially awkward but turned into a bro moment thanks to all the shared, manly screaming we were doing. It was one of the most fun movie experiences I've ever had. I walked out buzzing and I had a smile on all day. Yes, it totally shaped my taste in movies. People who don't love BTLC are just Wrong. Sorry, Missy.
I doubted my upcoming decision to marry my X when she couldn't make it through BTiLC. If only I had followed my gut. Jack Burton could have saved me, but I wouldn't listen.
I believe Missy not liking Big Trouble in Little China would count as irreconcilable differences... All you'd have to do is say "Your honor, she doesn't like Big Trouble in Little China". After the various gasps and out bursts of rage from those witnessing the proceeding, the judge would have no choice but to annul the marriage.
Yeah, sorry MIssy, going to have to fall on Scott's side of taste for this one. You just lucked out with a really classy man. If I could get my husband to go out of his way for Jason Statham and Big Trouble in Little China, I think we'd get along much better.
Escape from New York Escape from LA Strange Brew (I am Canadian after all) Cobra Time Bandits and maybe any Mel Brooks movie (I have all of these in my collection).
Good for a theme movie weekend. I've done that in the past - 80's campground movies, 90 sci-fi movies, 60/70 cartoons... enjoy and you can thank me on Monday.
If you like Big Trouble in Little China even a little, you NEED to see the fan edit known as the "Fully Engorged Edition." You owe it to yourself. http://fanedit.org/369/

Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D
Night of the Living Dead, redubbed to make it more offensive, stupid, and just weird. Apparently the original wasn't properly copyrighted so messing with it wasn't a copyright violation (or something like that).
And my friends quit letting me go to the video rental store alone after I rented it... for all time. So clearly this is a movie that makes Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama look like Gone with the Wind...
I own a copy of BTiLC and am willing to watch whenever anyone mentions it. Also willing to watch any movie with Jason Statham. And will probably see Sucker Punch in the theater soon. Yes, I am an awesome girlfriend. But probably all Scott's female fans are. :)
You seem to have missed the fifth category: Movies you want to see at least part of but there is no way on god's green earth that you will help anybody make money off of. Those are the ones you pirate.
its funny I was all braced for the punchline in the 4th panel. I am all like come on Meyer your going to name some obscure movie that got way more fame then it deserved due to a small niche of super loyal fans who in his own words "love it despite its flaws"
Not sure who Jason Statham is, although I have an idea that he's that guy in the coming attractions for movies that I might watch part of if they stream them on Netflix. Google will let me know soon enough if that's who I'm thinking of.
Excellent plot summary in panel 3, though. There are plenty of good movies in that genre.
I just realized. out of all the banter out of all the forums, wiki-s, Q and As, and business-like socializing websites, I have never seen more in-depth, courteous, and thought-out responses than on the BI website.
and why in all the possible videos that you could have had in the final panel did you not list anything like Princess Bride, Terminator, or even (a chick flick) When Harry Met Sally (that's probably the only movie that came close to being okay for both genders at the same time) all those movies seemed to have been influential in all movies that have followed.
"Big Trouble in Little China" is the greatest movie ever made! Jack Burton, Wang Chi, Egg Shen, and... David Lopan! Lopan is the awesomest villain ever to grace celluloid with his feet. And the three "storms" were freaking sweet.
I loved Big Trouble in Little China! I do have green eyes after all. I bought Transporter for my husband, and the Die Hard collection. Our collection is pretty "testosterony" with very few chick flicks... may have something to do with our 5 sons...
OMG! Somebody besides me and one of my friends who saw it with me has heard of Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama?! I'm not necessarily recommending it, or anything, but I'm not NOT recommending either.
If Missy doen't like BTiLC, she must hate the other Carpenter 80's action film They Live. Man, now THERE's a timeless movie... story-wise it works just as well--if not better--today than it did when it first came out.

Why do our intransigent wives refuse to admit how totally awesome and cool Jason Statham is?

AHHH! Panel 3 is AWESOME! I laughed all alone here in my hotel room. now it seems sad that I typed that....
I watch Big Trouble in Little China at least once a year. I love this comic!!!

Panel 3 made me laugh like an idiot. Yes... like an idiot.
You know what Jack Burton would say at a time like this.
My girlfriend loves Jason Statham and refers to him as the "poor man's Bruce Willis". Yes. I do have an awesome girlfriend.
Just saw Sucker Punch in theaters. Got back to find this comic up. Was happy.
See it. It's everything good in a movie (ie. sexy women and violence) and none of those useless filler bits (ie. plot).
How in god's name is there no "previous comic" button on this page?
I doubted my upcoming decision to marry my X when she couldn't make it through BTiLC. If only I had followed my gut. Jack Burton could have saved me, but I wouldn't listen.
Your answer for Suckerpunch is that it's based on a comic (book) and you want to support the artist.
My wife's already said that she doesn't care to see it, but it looks like pure eye-candy awesome.
*wonders at the statistics for the googling for BTiLC after this comic*
Based on the last panel... Scott may have to get divorced.
BTiLC is a fantastic flick. Right up there with Highlander.....

Cristoph, there is a "previous instruction" button, just go back a comic to see the comment about it.
Oh wait...
"Big Trouble in Little China" is the best. Now I have to go rent it so my kids can see it.
Panel 3 wins the Internet, today.

Alas, I have to go out and buy my own.
Big Trouble in Little China is awesome. You, sir, have good taste.
@ sford Great bad movies:
Escape from New York
Escape from LA
Strange Brew (I am Canadian after all)
Cobra
Time Bandits
and maybe any Mel Brooks movie (I have all of these in my collection).

I'm a female who loves her some Jason Statham and Big Trouble in Little China!

Ha hA! My wife enjoys BTiLC. .. and Godzilla movies. and Aliens. She also enjoys boardgames and RPGs.
What I am saying is that I Win.
Lo Pan Lives!

*gasp* she hates Big Trouble in Little China...
Beyond that, very funny. really like panel 2

I was not disappointed!
good panel, good job.
You've left out a category between "never watch" and "rent"...
"Willing to watch while on a plane"
My movie standards take a serious hit at 35,000 feet.

Renting? People still do that?
Note from Scott: Netflix.

@gekkobear
What the heck is this movie? I really thought it was a joke...

The only thing missing from this comic is a six demon bag.
