I realize this comic has been sitting here for a while, so I'm not sure if anyone reads these comments anymore. But this advice reminded me somewhat of a reading from the Bible.
"Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes." Proverbs 26:4-5
According to the Expositor's Study Bible, the translation is slightly off, with the second verse meaning, ". . . as his folly deserves," which basically means, answer and shame him so that hopefully he will learn his lesson.
