I just survived a Carnival cruise, on one of the ships that broke down recently. Everything went smoothly, however, so yay.

"Pure spite"
Sometimes a line is just so perfect, it can hardly be believed. I applaud you, Mr. Meyer.

I went on a Carnival cruise with my wife back in 2005. There were no noticeable problems on that trip, though Carnival's DJ seemed to only be equipped with two songs: "In the Navy" by the Village People and "HOT HOT HOT!" by Buster Poindexter.

Panel three. I absolutely lost myself. I'm pretty sure the girlfriend and I have had that argument before.

"Pure spite".

Missy - you are now my new idol. When I am famous (and hopefully rich),and people ask if anyone inspired me, I shall say, loudly and proudly - "Missy, and the philosophy of Pure Spite - the purest and cleanest and most satisfying emotion known to humankind". And then I shall smile vindictively, and possibly trip them up.

I love you have Missy outside of the second panel. I'd like to see more of characters breaking outside the panels. Good job, again.

Maria: Oscar, that wasn't nice!
Oscar the Grouch: No, it wasn't nice. But it was sincere.

Missy - I wouldn't get on any cruise ship line - they are all having problems - http://www.nbcnews.com/travel/fire-breaks-out-aboard-cruise-ship-florida-6C10086722
But you know what the biggest problem is ? Not dysentery. Not engine problems. Not even mutiny or pirates. It's passengers going overboard and not being reported. It's almost not quite the perfect crime - the regulation of cruise hips is abysmal - having them regulate themselves is laughable. I'll never go on a cruise until they are running smoothly and well regulated.

My perfect vacation would involve mountains, streams, rivers, lakes, wildlife, vegetation, getting dirty, and altough most bugs don't add to the perfection, they're a known part of the package.
Cruise ships have bars open round the clock, lounge-lizard entertainment, stuffy cabins not much bigger than my tent, and cruise-ship food.
If everything went perectly on cruise ships every time, I still would pay to stay off one.

I love the unspoken punchline, where Scott appears to have won the arguement. My second favorite is "if you're married to a reasonable person, reason will win the arguement." Meaning men are basically screwed.

Obviously, you have nailed it. I agree with you 100%.

If that's the worst argument you've had with your spouse, then you are doing pretty good.

You know... with like 37 cruise ships running more than one cruise a week on average (averaging 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 14 day cruises), Carnival runs well over 2000 cruises a year. This year has been their worst ever, with three cruises having a problem that interrupted people's vacations. And there were no fatalities in any of them.

You have to be pretty bad at math to worry about the fraction of a percent chance that your vacation will suck on a cruise line when so much can (and frequently does) go wrong on other types of vacation.

Obviously, the chances are greater than you think. This lastest one happened just the other day. I'll stick to huntin', fishin' and camping out in the great outdoors. I seldom have any problems that I cannot deal with on my own. I take all my grandkids along and they have a lot more fun than they would on some dysfunctional boat.
