How to Develop a Drinking Game (Guest Strip)

This is a comic written and drawn by my lovely wife. She also took the initiative and wrote up a post about how a Basic Instructions gets made for her blog. I've threatened to write a similar post myself, but I've always been a bit too busy making the comic to make a blog post about making the comic.

This is awesome. I love the behind the scenes about how the strips are made.
Hmmm...your wife appears happier when she draws the comic... :-)
Your wife is even funnier than you Scott...
That third panel is classic. Enjoyed Missy's blog post as well. I guess the technique would be essentially impossible without a tablet?
those are lame drinking games, what you really need is a drinking game based off of things like chess, but in a way that evens the playing field. every time you take a piece you drink its value in shots. so taking my rook means 5 shots, that way the game is always even and fun.
Interesting that Missy is hotter when she draws herself...
Of course I'd draw myself as attractive as possible. Who wouldn't?!
And as for "lame" -- you've never watched Scott play a video game. Or heard how often he quotes TV shows and movies. If we really played these with booze, I'd be drunk all the time.
Great comic Missy! :) I've got to play the "Drink when someone uses a movie quote" next time I'm partying...
I nearly hurt myself laughing at that third panel. Bravo, Missy!!
Thanks for the Behind the Scenes post, too - always fun to get a look at the creative process.
Third and fourth panels are great.
Sir Squirrel: I wouldn't say chess is very balanced- as soon as you start losing, chances are you are going to keep losing.
In college we once drank whiskey shots to Rock Paper Scissors. There's a night I'll never remember.
I thought the second panel was great, which is probably a sign of a good comic, that you've now had three out of four panels specifically complimented.
I was surprised that the pictures were a bit different, I thought they were generally copy and pasted like a slightly madlibbier dinosaur comics.
FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY. good job, wife of funny man. (not to say that thats all that you are, but frankly, i dont know you or your husbands name). THANKS
Fun comic! I like the article and the concern about encouraging drinking.
The artwork looks great, and the jokes are the kind I've come to expect from this comic, In fact, had it not said it was a guest strip, I wouldn't have known. Funny stuff, my favorite was the high fructose corn syrup part of the drinking game.
Did you get a sudden influx of visitors when you announced your wife would be doing a strip on your site?
Thanks for reminding me of how often I say "Khaaaaaan". As long as my wife doesn't see the str... Too late.
People with a Westminster system of government say 'caucus'. A lot.
I mostly noticed that Missy is nicer in this strip than the ones Scott draws.
I have to say it, I was reading the news (an extremely boring Australian politics story) when I encountered the key word "caucus" (http://www.smh.com.au/federal-election/gillard-calls-on-labor-to-stop-the-leaks-20100909-152gy.html).
Fortunately for me I had a bottle of petalon Shiraz next to me!!! Mind you, I had to read the news article 5 times to get the desired affect >.<
(First post of a long time reader [and I mean, LONG TIME - I've read every single B.I. there has ever been, I've even advertised it some]. Keep up the good work Scott and Missy!)
Scotts shoes are big to fill. Kudos for trying.
I have to say, I love your taste in movie quotes.
Ha, served by your missus.
GREAT! Maybe Missy should draw the cartoons in the future so you have more time to do the dishes! Plus, Missy... I noticed you're filling your top up a bit more than Scott. :-) (And a little less right below it.) I think you should ask Scott if he thinks you look fat when wearing that sweater since seriously, you're not! :-)
I have one suggestion to make, though. You should make an image similar to the one of Scott with a 2x4 about to hit some guy. Only this time, put Scott on the foreground and yourself behind him, ready to hit some smartness in him with a rolling pin. :-)
it appears your wife is happier when she drinks.
Not bad ... for a girl.
(Hey, that was pretty good fo Rambo!)
Your wife out-humored you. At least you can take solace in the fact that you have to make one or 2 each week and she's had years to make just one strip.
Oh, if we played the Movie Quotes game, I'd never be sober.
Great comic.
Awesome job, Missy!
BTW, I am loving the books. There is something about seeing the comics in print that I enjoy them even more. I think it may be cuz I am reading them at home (ie not at work) and am more relaxed.
@ Accipiter: By now you've probably seen the part of Sir Squirrrrrel 's suggestion where the person who starts out winning ends up the first to be plastered? ;-)
Your wife is still there? Did she not read "How to Scare off Predators"?
My lord, in panel 3 she's Sarah Palin!
If I had to drink every time I quoted a movie in conversation I would be perfectly preserved in ethanol. I *heart* this comic and Scott n Missy!
Mrs Missy, I think maybe you should do some of these more often, because that is FABULOUS.
Gah! Scott is just as nerdy as I am about quoting movies. If his brain is like mine, then he's thinking... "I'm so cool that I can quote movies and you peons aren't smart enough to understand the reference!"
Meanwhile the people around him are thinking... "Can't that geek have an original thought?"
Welcome to my world.... "The Comics Must Flow!"
Great timing!
Very nice job on the art and story, i got a good chuckle.
And on a related note, I just watched the early 80s version of Dune a few weeks ago to see if it was just as bad as I remembered from when I was a kid. Yup, it was.
I love the cups in panel two. I used to hide alcohol that way too.
At our house, we take a drink every time someone says (or uses) scallops. It has evolved into a drink for any mention anywhere anytime by anyone.
Taking the comic and the blog post together, I caught your quote about putting the ring on the correct finger...
But then the image is FLIPPED into the comic, so now the ring isn't even on the correct HAND!
Sorry. Don't be mad at my obsessive compulsiveness.
It's a quirk. :P
Awesome, Missy should do more guest posts :)
And... I love drinking games, though not actually playing them, merely making them up for the humour value (I once suggested so many drinking games to a friend that she was convinced I was an alcoholic... really not :) ) So I appreciated this comic.
