This thought occurred to me today. You, or at least, cartoon you, would look pretty dang epic in a viking helmet.

I don't know why I thought of this. If it's from an earlier comic or something, feel free to flame me, guys.

I think I just found my next Halloween costume.

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHolly

Not to be confused with the rubberized, mechanical trouser snake that your wife/girlfriend may be fighting this very minute.

I just finished reviewing Gamera vs. Barugon and the latest MST3K release, so the timing of this cartoon was perfect.

"Just like Captain Kirk." Sounds to me like someone thinks Picard was the better captain. Also, great job.

Hmmm, snake, eyehole, zipper, two-handed over the head, "snot" beaten out of you. Freud would have a blast with that one.

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterdeimos

Every pane of this made me laugh really hard. I don't think one of your comics has made me do that in a long time. Bravo on a highly amusing and entertaining piece.

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJon

Hahaha..... Trogdor?

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJustin

Oh, God, I lurved this one! Another awesome chance to work Trek references into everyday life. Can't wait to try it out the very next time I see somebody in costume. Been a fan for years, Scott. Your comics really are helping me get through this aught-generation-slump. Whoohoo, keep'em comin!

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRanditty

TROGDOR!!! (Burninating all o' the peoples...)

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterChuck

The S is for Sucks

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBurnout

I have never commented here but I just wanted to make sure that someone else had caught the Trogdor similarity besides me :)

Consummate V's! I said consummate!

June 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMark

"Let's put one of those beefy arms back on him! Yeah, that's nice... Coming out of the back of his neck..."

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

this comic fails to inform you that the fake-looking monster is the most dangerous of all. note that it is not called the 'fake monster', but the 'fake-LOOKING monster'. the 'zipper' and 'eye hole' markings on his skin serve to lure the unwary into striking range. before you even realize it, he is upon you!

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commentero0o

I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately though "Trogdor!" Please tell us you're a fan, Scott!

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTV James

What Jon said - a classic.

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commentercsrster

I distinctly recall Scott saying that he could not draw, and, thus, all of his comics were solely done by tracing pictures he'd taken of people in real life.

This in mind, who or what was the base template for the Snake Ape, and the apparently more powerful Robo Snake Ape?

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterThe Chosen One

Trogdor was a man!

Or maybe he was a Dragonman!

Or..maybe he was...just a Dragon...

But he was still TROGDOOOOOOOOOOR!

Epic stuff.

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterZeagleFiend

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought of Trogdor

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSheherazahde

The Title in the RSS feed sold me. I was far from disappointed. The question remains. Did you actually build a snake ape monster , photograph it, rotoscope it? We got to see the photos. Snake-ape and robo-snake ape costumes would be hot ebay items.

@Holly: Next Halloween costume? Which one: Snake Ape or Robo Snake Ape?

"Ah, a Trogdor costume" was the FIRST thing I thought of when I looked at panel 1 of this strip. I cannot believe it wasn't at least partially inspired by the beefy-armed burninator.

I like how Robo Snake Ape has a viewing slit rather than eyeholes, but it still has a zipper.

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRadien

Came for the Trogdor reference, left happy.'

Awesome strip Scott! Never fails to make me laugh.

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBrent

LOL. nice one guys

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterberns

Trogdor?

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterFopenplop

I agree. I'd love to see the photo template for Snake Ape! :-)

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMatt

I always called it the "Shatner attack". I've seen him use it outside of his role as Kirk, so I assumed it was his own idea of how to actually attack something.

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMike

clearly, you should have called in for the.......that's right........The Knifeketeer !

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterjames yeamans

how many Syfy original movies have I seen in my life? I don't know if I can count! This is soooo true!!!!

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterGreg

TROG DOR!!!!!!

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

Next we must have the Judger's team fight Snake Ape! I await the day Rocket Hat yanks off Snake Ape's head and finds Omnipresent Man inside the suit (he IS everywhere) ...

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRebekah

This monster also reminded me of Trogdor the Burninator, sans the wings.
Then I looked up "snake ape" and found this curious article:
http://www.examiner.com/x-6911-RPG-Examiner~y2010m4d8-Monster-Madness-Snake-Ape

weird.

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJGG

The thing I love about the "secret weapon" is if he actually uses it (turns the dryer on), the heat will melt the glue and the fins will fall off...

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTim Coker

I think we need to start getting together the funding now... Robo Snake Ape: The Movie

June 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPatrick

I agree with the guy who said you'd look epic with a viking helmet.

June 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEliza

You had me at SNAKE APE!

June 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterRob

Trogdor is from the strongbad email cartoons at www.homestarrunner.com . I haven't watched them in a very long time, and I didn't think of trogdor when i saw the this comic, but I got the reference.

June 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterDrowlord

I hate to correct you, but there's no such thing as Robo Snake Ape.

It should be Mecha Snake Ape.

June 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterChristophe Thill

I've seen a lot of posts for Trogdor, but I thought it looked more like the monster from the kid's dream in Dreamscape. That one was defeated by Dennis Quaid holding it still while the kid went at it with an axe.

June 25, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHari

love the judo chop!
