I HATE those Mac ads. If you're trying to sell me a computer, don't be condescending to the competition. It kind of reminds me of politics: attacking your opponent instead of showing off your strengths. Very off-putting to me. Not to mention that "PC" stands for "Personal Computer," so Macs don't count as computers I guess? Those ads single-handedly turned me off of Macs.
I much prefer Linux because it is customizable (Widows get "beamed up" and scroll over text gets burst into flame ) and because the terminal is extremely useful. I do not like windows mainly do to the cost .
i have to say a few things1) to all of you saying "PC means personal computer" STFU ok? everyone knows what we mean, you dont need to add stupid comments that don't help2) there are two reasons why macs dont get as much market share. 1. yes, they do have less users so less people make viruses for them 2. ALSO, mac os x is built on unix, a very secure OS that is built for not getting viruses3) For the same reason people dont make viruses for mac, people dont make programs for mac. more and more people are porting things to mac.4) Linux is also based on unix, which is cool, but for all of you saying its customizable, do you really know how to edit the OS? i didnt think so.5) if i had been first to comment i would have said "cue mac vs PC debate here. great job scott!!(sarcastic if you couldnt tell)" hahaha.
Macs are friendlier for beginners, and equal if not better for experts as windows. In general, Mac users don't take other peoples preferences in OS as personally as PC users do.
All operating systems suck, it just boils down to whether I want to pay an arm and a leg for a mac, mess up installing linux or give in and be a corporate whore/PC user.
One solution would be to combine Steve Jobs, Linus Torvald and Bill Gates into one super-being.
Of course, that won't exactly be an improvement, but it's not like I said it was a GOOD solution...
Seems to me that the main arguments are "windows has viruses" and "mac has less stuff and is more expensive"It is simply due to the fact more people use windows, therefore more products are made for windows because the companies will profit more. Also because more people use windows it also means that more viruses are written for windows because there are more computers to infect with them which is again more advantagous. As for the price thing? Well from what I have seen there is no real reason for the hardware or software of macs to cost more as it doesn't cost any more to make. The only real advantage is generally mac products look nicer.
Macs are the Starbucks of the computer world:
Overpriced, usually crappy, and yet bought by a ton of people because it has branding
I run a mac. I don't consider myself superior to others because of this, I consider myself lucky that I got an excellent computer stocked with most every program I need for $250 from a friend. If this computer had been a windows machine, I still would have bought it.
Mac would be totally fine if they didn't have reduced functionality, high prices and a rabid fanbase
Penguin computing for the win!
It is not just because there have been very few viruses for Linux, although that is a great thing. It is next to impossible to write a virus for Linux because there are so many different types. Do you write the virus for Debian/Ubuntu systems or for Red Hat/Fedora/CentOS systems? Or maybe for Slackware? One virus would not run on all of them.
It is not just that Linux is customizable. I have been on Linux for about 14 months, and I can change just about anything I want to. Desktop configuration, where files are stored. Almost anything I want. Without breaking the machine (although if I tried I could do that too, but I would have to try)
And it is not just that Linux is free. Free as in beer. I have run a dozen or more versions of Linux and never had to pay for one. I can changes operating systems every day if I want (and I sometimes do on my laptop). I can try out every Linux distribution out there to find the perfect one.
It is all of that and more.
And no, Linux is not hard to learn. If you can use a computer, you can use Linux. Only a few things are different, and they are all better. Anyone can learn Linux. And say goodbye to the most common computer problems.Of curse, it will never overcome ID ten T errors and problem resides between screen and keyboard.
Love it...dont like mac neither
I still use windows xp which is the best operating system from Microsoft but windows 7 is much better.
You know, for all the "Mac fanboys are the WORST!" comments out there, the great majority of the comments here are mindless tribalism coming from the PC side of the aisle.
Macs don't come with a two-button mouse.
Ed, how you can say Windows is hard to use???
If you use Linux, you KNOW that Windows is easy to use.
Linux you have to choose the distribution that is better to you... and can start with a command-line shit to a powerfull full-featured OS
The Mac problem is that it make everything for you. It removes your control of things
So... choose your OS:
- Dont want to think? Mac- Want to customize every little thing in your OS or want a cheap alternative? Linux- Dont know what is OS? Windows
Triplerush is hilarious! He put his comment on the wrong comic, and then, instead of just adding another comment here, he merely writes a message directing people to the previous strip.
Connor, you said what I was going to. "Mac's" is indeed possessive. A small correction:
"We use an apostrophe to create plural forms in two limited situations: for pluralized letters of the alphabet and when we are trying to create the plural form of a word that refers to the word itself. Here we also should italicize this "word as word," but not the 's ending that belongs to it. Do not use the apostrophe+s to create the plural of acronyms (pronounceable abbreviations such as laser and IRA and URL*) and other abbreviations. (A possible exception to this last rule is an acronym that ends in "S": "We filed four NOS's in that folder.")
Great comic! I'm happily working my way through the archives.
I used to use Linux, and had no problems with Viruses and such, despite the Myriad of Porno sites (mostly Asian Women with Large Buttocks) that I visited, but I switched to Xp after seeing that all the Video Games I like to Play wouldn't work on Linux.
I use Windows because I've always used it. Plus, I'm a gamer.
Those are my primary (and possible the only) reasons.
Macs suck. They always have and they always will.
Yeah--if only Windows machines didn't suck even worse...
